The mechanical keyboard is composed of the following main components:

Key switch: The most important component of a mechanical keyboard is the key switch. This is the biggest difference between mechanical keyboards and membrane keyboards. Each key switch is an independent mechanical component that can be designed into different shapes and operating forces, providing different key feel and sound feedback.

Keycap: Keycaps are plastic key covers on mechanical keyboards that fit over the switches allowing the user to touch and press the keys. Keycaps typically have letters, numbers, and symbols printed on them and are used to input text and commands.

Shaft: The shaft is part of the key switch and is a cylindrical component made of metal which is used to secure the key switch and allow it to be pressed down. Different types of shafts have different operating forces and trigger point locations, thus providing different key feel and trigger feedback.

Baseplate: The baseplate is the main body of a mechanical keyboard, it is a thick metal plate with all the key switches and circuit boards fixed on it. The baseplate provides stability and robustness for the mechanical keyboard.

Circuit board: The circuit board is an important component of the mechanical keyboard, it contains all the electronic components and circuits used to detect key events and send them to the computer.

Cables: Cables are used to connect the mechanical keyboard to the computer, usually using a USB or PS/2 interface.
